Phil Murphy (D) is the incumbent governor of New Jersey, having won the seat in 2017. This was a flip to Democratic after eight years of Chris Christie (R) running the state. Christie left with low approval ratings, helping to fuel Murphy’s election to the governorship.
Murphy is expected to run for re-election in 2021, hoping to become the first Democrat to win a second term in New Jersey since 1977.
