The history of gubernatorial recalls in the United States grew in 2021 with the California recall election.

To date, there have been four recall elections of an American governor. With nine years since the last such vote, this has come into the forefront once again as California heads to the polls for a September 14, 2021 recall election for Gavin Newsom, the first-term Democratic governor.
